SEZONSKE ALTERACIJE BIOHEMIJSKO-HEMATOLOŠKIH PARAMETARA KOD VRHUNSKIH SPORTISTA

Sead Malićević
Fudbalski klub Partizan, Beograd

Uvod.

SEASONAL ALTERATIONS OF BIOCHEMICAL AND HAEMATOLOGICAL PARAMETERS IN ELITE ATHLETES

Sead Malicevic
Partizan Belgrade Football Club

Introduction. Regular checks of certain biochemical and haematological parameters of an athlete can help in early discovering health disorders and be useful in evaluating training, nutrition and supplementation programmes.
Aim. Aim of this study was to investigate which of the biochemical and haematological parameters express health condition of an athlete in relation to daily training schedule and appoint to potential disorders in homeostasis of the body. Other goal was to check the option of using certain laboratory analyses in order to evaluate training process and programmes of nutrition and supplementation. Another aim was to found-out which of the parameters should be assessed in regular (pre-competition) medical tests and which in control checks (during season).
Methods. During four years, serum values of numerous biochemical and haematological parameters were measured in 27-35 elite athletes. Checks took place four times a year, before and during both half-seasons.
Results. There has been a rule and statistical significance in alterations of some parameters (creatine kinase, aspartate aminotransferase, serum iron, total leukocyte count, total erythrocyte count, haemoglobin, haematocrit). Rest of the parameters alter insignificantly during season. It is important to stress that some of the values were far out of the reference range.
Conclusion. In order to follow-up the changes in health of an athlete and evaluate training, nutrition and supplementation plans, there is a need to follow-up only some of the biochemical and haematological parameters during season. Our newly suggested and revised list of parameters better express status and changes in health of an athlete and make savings in finances and resources.
